Should you be monochrome in a colourful world?

With perfectly curated Instagram feeds, successful people on tik-tok or even witnessing the (allegedly) perfect mums in mummy Facebook groups – it’s sometimes hard to see how you fit in in today’s world.

I’ve constantly struggled to find me. Sometimes I think I have, but she hides and I have to look again. And other times you can’t help but copy others – is this where I fit in?

Marketing companies don't help, telling us what to buy. With fashion and trends people are steered to buying the ‘it’ thing even if it’s not your jam. Have you seen the increase in fashionable drink bottles recently?!

(Seriously though, were drink bottles a thing when you were in high school? Because they’ve become the latest fashion accessory. My drink bottle also doubled as an ice brick in my décor lunch box – I know you know and most likely had one too!!)

May 22nd is ‘Be You’ day, and it just got me thinking about the world we live in.

This may sound crazy, but trying to be myself lead me on my Social Betty Journey. When looking for stationery I was always told that I needed to buy one of three options:

  • Officeworks standard
  • Kikki-k cutsie
  • Smiggle bold and primary school

I didn't want any of those! I wanted to be able to use the items I buy in a way that suits me. Why is that so hard?

So yes, I designed monochrome, simplistic items. Products you can take home and use the way YOU want to. Pieces that can live and change with YOU.

So why be monochrome in a colourful word? Because by using monochrome you can create your unique YOU!

BE YOU! Be creative, be serious, be fun, be boring – be anything you want. Just. Be. YOU!
